Malaysian students stranded in Jakarta to be flown home on Oct 26 night, says envoy

JAKARTA: Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin has said 61 Malaysian students who were stranded at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport are scheduled to return home on Sunday at 7.55pm local time.

He said the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta has helped to look after the interests of the stranded students with the cooperation of a local travel agent.

"We hope this sort of incident can be prevented in future," he said on Sunday.

Syed Mohamad Hasrin also expressed his gratitude to the travel agent who had agreed to help the students during their four-day visit here.

He hoped that matters between the agent in question, who is also Malaysian, and the organiser of the programme, including payments and other aspects, could be settled amicably.

The group of students from Selangor were stranded for more than three hours at the airport on Thursday due to issues with the travel agent engaged by the organiser to handle the group's transportation and lodging.

It was reported that, in the 3pm (local time) incident on Thursday, 61 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Selasih and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Kapar were stranded for over three hours at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after the travel agency failed to turn up to sort out their transport and accommodation matters. - Bernama
