Neighbouring districts to aid flood-hit areas in Perak, says Saarani

IPOH: Districts of neighbouring flood-hit areas have been instructed to provide aid and assistance, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said following the worsening flood situation in Manjung and Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS), other districts like Kerian, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Hulu Perak will provide logistical assistance, including temporary shelters.

"All safety departments and agencies have also been mobilised to the affected areas to expedite relocation and rescue efforts to ensure the safety of the people is a priority," he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 24).

"A total of 74 assets and vehicles from various agencies have been mobilised, including boats, trucks, tents, ambulances and equipment like safety vests and mobile spotlights.

"More vehicles and boats will be sent to the affected areas to ensure rescue operations can be conducted immediately and orderly," he added.

Saarani said a total of 2,171 victims from 769 families in Manjung and LMS have been relocated to 22 shelters.

"We advised the people in the affected areas to be careful and to adhere to instructions from the authorities.

"Folk should also not conduct activities near rivers, irrigation and water channels during the monsoon season," he said, adding that the state disaster management committee was activated on Thursday (Oct 23) at 9.30pm.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and to provide aid to victims," he added.
