KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has completed 17 out of the 18 Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) for 2025 with the last expected to be completed soon, says Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
He said the report on the PEDs will be presented to Asean leaders this Sunday for adoption and notation.
"We have finished the PEDs, and we are going to send our report to the leaders for their adoption and for their notation during the leaders' meeting.
"Under the economic pillar, we have concluded many of the key performance indicators. In this case, we call it the priority economic deliverables.
"We are happy to present to the leaders this coming Sunday for adoption and notation," he told reporters after the 26th Asean Economic Community Council (AECC) Meeting on Friday (Oct 24).
On Sept 22, the ministry’s deputy secretary-general (Trade) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said Malaysia is confident it can achieve 15 of the 18 PEDs in time for the 47th Asean Summit.
The PEDs spearheaded by Malaysia will drive regional economic integration as part of efforts to establish the Asean Economic Community (AEC).
The AECC, one of the three Asean Community Councils, is the key coordinating body that oversees the work of the Asean Economic Community pillar.
The AECC Meeting is held in conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits taking place in KLCC from Sunday to next Monday.
The summit is set to be one of the largest meetings in the bloc's history, serving as a crucial platform to foster deeper collaboration while addressing regional and global challenges in a cohesive, inclusive manner.
This is the fifth time Malaysia has assumed the Asean Chair since the bloc's inception in 1967, with the previous chairmanships in 2015, 2005, 1997 and 1977. - Bernama
