KUALA LUMPUR: Farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen affected by flash floods are urged to immediately report any property damage or loss of income to the nearest agricultural office or related agency.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said his ministry would review all reports and provide appropriate assistance to help ease the burden on those affected.

"I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all flood victims.

"The government, through the relevant agencies, is on the ground providing aid and ensuring the safety and welfare of the people is always safeguarded,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday (Oct 24).

Mohamad also expressed his appreciation to rescue teams, government agency members and volunteers who pitched in to aid the flood victims and prayed that all victims would be given protection and strength to face the ordeal.

As of 8am today, the flood situation in Perak had worsened, with 2,171 people from 759 families evacuated to 22 temporary relief centres. Meanwhile, in Kedah, 206 people were moved to three relief centres opened in Kulim on Thursday (Oct 23) night.

In Penang, one relief centre was opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tan Sri Awang Had Salleh in Kampung Perlis on Friday morning due to heavy rain since the day before, which caused fallen trees in several areas and landslides along Jalan Tun Sardon. – Bernama
