Asean Summit attendance among Parliament's focus today

KUALA LUMPUR: The attendance list of national leaders and international organisations at the 47th Asean Summit, along with Malaysia’s key achievements as the regional bloc's chair, will be among the main focus points of today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.

According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s official website, the question will be raised by Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) to the Prime Minister during the Minister’s Question Time.

He also wishes to know the extent to which the government’s final preparations can ensure the smooth running of the overall programme as Malaysia becomes the centre of global attention.

In the same session, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (PN-Indera Mahkota) will ask the Prime Minister to explain the government’s measures to enhance school safety and strengthen cooperation among schools, parents, local communities and security agencies to address safety and wellbeing among students at the grassroots level.

During the question-and-answer session, Datuk Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) will ask the Prime Minister to provide the status of the investigation report on the sinkhole incident along Jalan Masjid India that occurred in August last year.

Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) will ask the Defence Minister about the measures that will be taken to ensure a more transparent and accountable procurement process for the nation’s defence strategy following the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO) scandal.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (MUDA-Muar) will question the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability regarding preparations to deal with earthquakes, especially in areas that have never experienced such occurrences.

He also wishes to know the government’s early warning and preventive measures to help communities prepare and mitigate such incidents.

After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue with the debate on the Supply Bill (Budget 2026) at the policy stage, now entering its sixth day, after being tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 10.

According to the Dewan Rakyat schedule, the policy stage debate will run for eight days until Oct 28, while the committee stage debate will take place for 14 days from Nov 5 to 27.

The Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament takes place over 35 days until Dec 4. - Bernama
