Kedah company busted over halal logo

SUNGAI PETANI: The long arm of the law caught up with a food processing company in Kedah that was found using an unauthorised halal logo on its products.

The Kedah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s enforcement director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said this followed raids conducted on a factory producing noodles, kuey teow, laksa, tofu and tempeh in Bedong and a store on Jalan Angsana near here at 11am on Sunday.

“The enforcement division in Kedah conducted an integrated operation with the Health Ministry and the Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department. The operation focused on the halal certification and marking used at the premises, the status of its halal certification, and compliance with rules and regulations under the ministry.

“It was found that the premises were using the halal logo of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) on its products without the permission of the authorities,” he said in a statement yesterday, as reported by Bernama.

He said products worth RM87,057 were seized during the raid.

The case is being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011.
