Fireworks explosion injures 22 in Kulim

KULIM: Twenty-two people were injured, including a man who suffered a serious forehead wound, following a fireworks explosion at Paya Besar.

Kulim OCPD Supt Zulkifli Azizan said the incident occurred about 12.45am yesterday when a large crowd had gathered along the road to watch the fireworks display.

“Several people were injured after the fireworks exploded unexpectedly.

“Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene to provide initial treatment before the victims were taken to Kulim Hospital,” he said in a statement.

Supt Zulkifli said one victim sustained a deep forehead wound measuring about 5cm, while others suffered minor injuries.

He added that the situation was quickly brought under control after the injured were sent for treatment.
