Thunderstorm warning issued for four states including Perlis and Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across four states, with warnings in effect until noon on Monday (Oct 20).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.

Perlis is on alert for severe weather.

In Kedah, the districts of Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Yan and Kuala Muda are under the warning.

Penang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Perak, areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak are forecasted to be affected.

In Selangor, the district of Sabak Bernam is anticipated to experience severe weather conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
