PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin have extended their Deepavali greetings to Hindus in Malaysia, particularly those in Selangor.
In a message shared on the Selangor Royal Office’s Instagram account on Saturday (Nov 7), Their Royal Highnesses expressed hope that the Festival of Lights would continue to strengthen unity and harmony among the country’s multiracial and multireligious communities.
They said the spirit of mutual respect, visiting one another and sharing in the joy of celebrations should continue to be nurtured to strengthen bonds of brotherhood among Malaysians.
Taking into account current developments, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed confidence that strong understanding and tolerance, demonstrated whenever Malaysians celebrate each other’s festivals, were important safeguards against external influences seeking to undermine national unity.
The Ruler also cautioned against elements, particularly those spreading through social media, that attempt to sow hatred, create divisions and threaten the country’s peace.
Their Royal Highnesses expressed hope that the Deepavali celebrations would bring happiness and well-being while strengthening the people’s commitment to preserving Malaysia’s harmony.
“Deepavali Valthukal,” the message read.
