Teenager drowns at waterfall in Lubuk Kawah Recreational Forest


ALOR SETAR: A 16-year-old boy has drowned at the Lubuk Kawah Recreational Forest in Yan.

A Kedah Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said in a statement that they received information regarding the incident at 6.18pm on Sunday (Oct 19) before arriving at the scene about 20 minutes later.

"A team of personnel from the Yan Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene and was informed upon arrival that a teenage boy had drowned during an outing with some friends.

"A surface search operation was carried out, with firefighters also wading through the river water in the waterfall area to search for the victim. The victim was later found at 8.40pm, about 500m from the location where he was reported to have fallen," the spokesman said in a statement on Sunday night.

He added that the victim was confirmed dead by a Health Ministry officer before the victim's body was handed over to the police for further action. – Bernama
