KUALA LUMPUR: MPs Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal will not back down despite being sacked and suspended, respectively, from Bersatu.
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal questioned his suspension, saying it went against natural justice and was tainted by bias.
"I question the wisdom of those who rushed justice through, which is an injustice in itself," he told a press conference here on Tuesday (Oct 14).
"We will not admit defeat... (we) will soldier on and march on.
"We were given the mandate by the people as elected MPs will continue to voice the truth and play our role as checks and balances to the government."
He said they would also continue with efforts to return Bersatu to its original struggle for the rakyat.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said he had questioned the composition of the party's disciplinary board, claiming that two of its members had familial and professional links to Bersatu leadership.
"There would be a conflict of interest, and they would be open to bias.
"We demanded that the two members recuse themselves from the proceedings," he added.
He described the decision as having broken the momentum that Bersatu was currently enjoying.
He said it came at a time when Bersatu is about to face elections in Sabah.
"We received (numerous) messages from MPs from both sides of the political divide expressing their support for us and telling us we are not alone," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal had his Bersatu membership suspended for one term while Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful was sacked for violating the party’s code of conduct.
The suspension and sacking came amid speculation that the group was involved in a movement collecting statutory declarations aimed at toppling Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as party president.
The other four who were sacked are all division chiefs: Mohd Azrudin Mhd Idris (Hang Tuah Jaya), Mohd Faizal Asmar (Pengerang), Mohd Fadhli Ismail (Ipoh Timur) and Mohd Isa Mohd Saidi (Ampang).
Bersatu's disciplinary board said any of them may file an appeal within 14 days.
Meanwhile, Wan Saiful noted the swiftness in disciplinary proceedings against him.
He said a complaint was lodged against him on Sept 18, and he received a notice to appear before the disciplinary board on Sept 21.
"The hearing was held on Sept 25 and the complainant was not present," he said, adding that Bersatu had been highly efficient in handling complaints.
He also questioned why his report against Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had yet to be looked into.
He said he would continue to fight to restore Bersatu to its rightful path despite having been sacked.
Asked where he would be sitting in the Dewan Rakyat as he is now considered an independent, Wan Saiful said he left the decision to Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
Both Wan Ahmad Fayhsal and Wan Saiful said Bersatu has yet to inform Johari of their status.
