Immigration detains 32 foreigners in Johor for working without valid permits

JOHOR BARU: The Immigration Department detained 32 foreign nationals working without valid permits at food and beverage outlets and car wash centres in two districts.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said several operations were carried out in Johor Baru and Batu Pahat on Monday (Oct 13).

“The enforcement operations followed a week of intelligence gathering at identified hotspots based on information from the public,” he said on Tuesday (Oct 14).

“Checks were conducted on 96 individuals at food and beverage outlets, car wash centres and residential areas,” he added.

He said the detainees are aged 19 to 52 and were arrested for various immigration offences.

“Offences included not possessing valid travel documents, misusing temporary work visit passes, working without authorisation and overstaying,” he said.

“The detainees comprised eight Indonesian men, eight Indonesian women, five Bangladeshi men, five Indian men, four Myanmar men, a Pakistani man and a Myanmar woman,” he added.

Mohd Rusdi said all detainees are held at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.

“Four Form 29 notices were also issued to witnesses to assist the investigation,” he said.
