Sabah DAP's future hinges on its old and new leaders working closely, says party sec

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP will only progress through strong collaborations between leaders and members from both the old and new generations, says its secretary Vivian Wong.

The Sandakan MP also said Sabah DAP would continue to grow, move forward and bring lasting progress to the people if the old and new could cohesively exchange ideas and knowledge.

She said that as the party shifted towards engaging more with the youth, it was thankful for and appreciative of the sacrifices of its veterans.

What mattered most was that it needed to remain united, because unity and conviction were the keys to victory in the coming state election, she added.

"The strength and trust that Sabah DAP enjoys today are built upon the hard work and dedication of those who came before, who laid the foundation for the party’s success," she said on Monday (Oct 13).

Addressing the recent resignation of a few former leaders, including former party chairman Datuk Frankie Poon, Wong thanked them for everything they had done and wished them well.

"Politics is a long journey; everyone has their own path. We respect their choices and thank them for what they have done," she said.

She also commended current Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe for his leadership, dedication and capability as one of the youngest ministers in the Sabah government.

Acknowledging that members may hold different views, she said what mattered most was staying united under a shared purpose, namely to serve the people and the nation.

With the Election Commission meeting on Thursday (Oct 16) to decide on key dates for the state polls, Wong reminded leaders and members to stay united, strengthen the party's foundations, and win the people’s confidence through service.
