Control post set up to coordinate SAR ops after car plunges into river near Muar


MUAR: A control post has been set up to coordinate a search and rescue (SAR) operation after a car reportedly plunged into a river near Pekan Panchor here on Monda (Oct 13) afternoon.

Muar Deputy OCPD Supt Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah said police received a report from a member of the public at about 2.30pm on Monday, a car that lost control before plunging into the river.

“Together with personnel from the Health Ministry, Civil Defence Force as well as Pagoh and Muar Fire and Rescue departments, we have set up a control post at the scene.

"No victims have been found so far, and the search operation is ongoing,” he said in a statement.

Supt Muhammad Aidil urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Muar district police headquarters at 06-956 4800 or come forward to assist in the investigation.

He also reminded the public not to spread unverified information or speculation that could disrupt the ongoing operation.

Earlier, a driver was believed to have been trapped inside a car that had plunged into Sungai Panchor here following an accident.

Videos showing firemen and police conducting search and rescue operations circulated on Facebook, claiming that a married couple had fallen into Sungai Panchor after having lunch at a nearby eatery.
