Budget 2026: Allocation for Mindef a significant boost, says Armed Forces chief


KUALA LUMPUR: The allocation for the Defence Ministry, especially the Armed Forces, provides a significant boost for the military to remain resilient in facing future challenges, says Jeneral Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar.

The Armed Forces chief Jeneral described the allocation as a well-balanced and thoughtful move that supports both military modernisation and the welfare of service members and their families.

"The budget reflects the continuation of the government's commitment under the leadership of the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), who has consistently prioritised the military in terms of capability enhancement, infrastructure development and personnel welfare.

“The Armed Forces will continue to uphold this mandate with full responsibility to ensure that the priorities outlined in Budget 2026 are implemented effectively,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 11).

He added that the allocations would further strengthen national border security, enhance international defence relations and safeguard Malaysia’s sovereignty.

"The allocation reflects the government’s continued commitment to national defence," he said.

In Budget 2026, the Defence Ministry has been allocated RM21.74bil, which is an increase of approximately 2.92% compared to RM21.13bil previously.

Of this amount, RM14.11bil is designated for Operating Expenditure (OE), while RM7.63bil is allocated for Development Expenditure (DE).
