JOHOR BARU: Some RM40mil worth of drugs seized in the state over the past 25 years will soon be destroyed, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.
He said that the drugs were kept in police storage for many years due to pending court cases and appeals which needed to be sorted out before the drugs could be disposed of.
“All this drugs were a result of 4,528 investigation papers opened up by the state police since 2000,” he said, adding that the drugs comprised 651.80kg and 12,243.02 litres,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Among them were at least 10 types of narcotics with ketum leaves topping the list at 325kg followed by MDMA (106kg), ketamine (94kg) and others, he said.
As for the liquids, ketum water topped the list with 5,120 litres and special chemicals used to process drugs totalling 6,666 litres.
“All the drugs will be destroyed using an incinerator which can be used to dispose off hazardous waste in Selangor,” he added.
Comm Ab Rahaman said that the disposal of the drugs would be carried out by a local company.
“The company was selected based on its expertise and extensive experience in waste management, as well as its specialised equipment and designated facilities.
“I was informed that the company will utilise its latest facility, a scheduled waste-to-energy incinerator,” he said, adding that all the disposal was conducted in accordance with the Inspector-General of Police’s Standing Order.
