Father arrested after allegedly abusing daughter who later ran away

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man after he was believed to have beaten his daughter who later ran away from home in Kepong here.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the victim, a 12-year-old girl, was reported missing on Saturday (Oct 4) before being found by the public and a police report was lodged.

“The cause of the incident was due to the suspect allegedly beating her after she did not clean the kitchen or do the dishes,” he said on Sunday (Oct 5).

It was reported that the victim was then taken to the Kepong Police Station and later sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for examination.

A medical examination revealed that the victim had bruises under her lip, scratches on her back, and was experiencing head pain.

“The 42-year-old suspect has been remanded for four days until Oct 8. He works as a plumber and has no prior police records,” said Comm Fadil. It was also reported that the case was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001.
