Family to leave probe into Year 4 pupils's death to the police

SEREMBAN: The family of a 10-year-old boy who died in hospital after being found unconscious in the toilet of his school is leaving it to the police to investigate the case.

A relative who chose to remain anonymous said the family was in the dark over the matter and hoped the police could shed some light on the matter.

"We can't say anything for now. We are leaving it to the police," said a relative to the family who chose to remain anonymous when met at the Rembau Hospital forensic department, where a post-mortem on the deceased's remains was being conducted.

The boy's grieving parents were also present at the hospital, but they did not wish to be interviewed.

The department's waiting area was also packed with family members and friends who turned up to express their condolences to the family.

The deceased, who was in Standard Four, was found unconscious in the toilet of the school on Wednesday (Oct 1) afternoon.

The school's discipline teacher then rushed him to a private health facility where he was pronounced dead by a doctor.

State police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad had earlier on Thursday (Oct 2) said the boy's death was being investigated under the anti-bullying legislation.

"For now, the case has been classified under Section 507C of the Penal Code.

"We would also like to remind the public not to speculate or share any unverified information," he said.

Section 507C criminalises the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or actions that are likely to cause harassment, distress, fear or alarm to another person, even if harm was not intended by the perpetrator.

The penalty for this offence is a term of imprisonment of up to one year, a fine or both.
