Human remains found in croc caught in Tatau estate

TATAU: A crocodile believed to have attacked and swallowed a young man at Tatau Estate, Sungai Semanok, was captured and cut open by the authorities on Wednesday (Oct 1), revealing human remains in its stomach.

The state Fire and Rescue Department reported that the reptile was caught on Wednesday, the fourth day of a search operation mounted after the disappearance of 21-year-old Jeffery Masing Win, who had been bathing in a stream with his brother on Saturday (Sept 27).

Villagers alerted the search team at about 9.25am Wednesday when they spotted the crocodile in the river.

"Firemen and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) personnel moved in swiftly, managing to capture the animal before conducting an operation to dissect it," it said.

At 10.30am, the crocodile was cut open in the presence of the authorities and villagers. Inside, officers discovered body parts in its stomach.

The remains were later handed over to the police for further investigation and identification and were later identified by the victim's family members.

Jeffery’s brother had earlier witnessed the attack, describing how the victim was dragged into the water despite his desperate attempts to fight off the reptile.
