KUALA LUMPUR: Police seized hundreds of drug-laced soft and herbal drinks when they raided an apartment in the city.

The operation, conducted by the Dang Wangi police last Thursday, resulted in the arrest of two suspects, aged 30 and 32, at an apartment unit located along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng.

Police found 503 bottles of soft and herbal drinks suspected of being laced with methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).

MDMA is commonly known as Ecstasy.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said they also seized 20g of Erimin 5, 19.6g of ketamine and 294g of MDMA powder at the apartment.

The drugs seized were valued at RM251,020.

“Urine tests performed on both suspects showed they were positive for ketamine. One of them also had a previous drug-related offence,” he said.

Police believed the apartment was used as a transit and processing centre for the drug syndicate.

Each laced bottle costs RM450.

Police said the laced drinks were distributed and sold at entertainment outlets.

They were also available via social media, but customers had to pick up their orders at designated locations.

Police believed the syndicate had been operating since early this year and runners were paid RM100 for each successful delivery.

ACP Sulizmie said they are now tracing the apartment owner. The 32-year-old suspect has been remanded until today, and the other until Oct 2.

“We are tracking the other syndicate members,” he said.
