Three killed in accident near Segamat

SEGAMAT: Three people have been killed on the spot in an accident involving three vehicles at KM212 Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban.

Segamat OCPD Supt Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said the incident involving a van, a trailer lorry and a 10-tonne lorry took place at 3.45pm on Thursday (April 2).

He said the van, driven by a 70-year-old local man with four passengers was travelling from Segamat towards Taman Golden Hill, in Gemas Baru near here.

"The van was entering the junction when the trailer lorry coming from behind hit the rear left of the van," Supt Jumazanzahir said in a statement on Thursday (April 2).

He said as a result of the collision, the van skidded into the opposite lane and was hit by the 10-tonne lorry.

Supt Jumanzanzahir said the van driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Two other passengers were injured and are receiving treatment at a hospital near here," he said, adding the trailer lorry driver in his 20s and a lorry driver in his 30s escaped unhurt.

Supt Jumanzanzahir appealed to witnesses to contact the investigating traffic officer Insp Mega Rajiman at 07-932 5811 to assist the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
