QuickCheck: Is a state investment arm's website being spoofed?

SCAMMERS know that people are likely to believe in the credibility of official-looking websites claiming to be affiliated with authorities or organisations. This is why such bodies’ names and logos are often misappropriated for malicious purposes.

Recently, a website was detected that claims to be the official portal of the Sabah government's investment arm.

Is this website linked to Qhazanah Sabah Berhad?

Verdict:

FALSE

In an advisory, Qhazanah Sabah Berhad said it had detected a website which claims to be affiliated with Qhazanah Ventures Sdn Bhd, Qhazanah Technology Sdn Bhd and Qhazanah Global Sdn Bhd.

Qhazanah Sabah said the only official website of the company is qhazanahsabah.com.my.

Qhazanah Sabah added that the company and its subsidiaries are not affiliated in any way with the fraudulent website https://qhazanah.com.

It warned the public not to share their personal or banking information with the fraudulent platform.

It added the site promotes unauthorised investment schemes and could be used to harvest an individual's personal and financial data.

Qhazanah Sabah said reports have been lodged with the authorities and cybersecurity agencies and investigations are ongoing.

Those who encounter suspicious activities linked to the fraudulent site are advised to report them immediately via email at communications@qhazanahsabah.com.my.
