Search underway for missing man in Manjung waters

IPOH: A search and rescue operation is ongoing for a 60-year-old man who went missing at Teluk Batik beach in Manjung.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director (operations) Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the senior citizen was said to have gone into the water after performing prayers at 6.25am on Friday (Sept 26).

"Upon reaching the location, we were informed by the man's family that they were holidaying near the beach.

"After performing some prayers, the man went into the waters and they lost sight of him," Shazlean said in a statement.

"We have dispatched three boats to look for the missing man within a 1km radius of where he was last seen.

"Searches are also being conducted along the shore and near some rocky areas nearby," he added.

In a separate incident, Shazlean said the body of a wheelchair-bound man was found in a drain along Jalan Labu Kubong Kampung S/C Belt, Kampung Chenderong, in Teluk Intan at 8am on Friday.

"Mohd Zaidi Omar, 48, is believed to have fallen into the drain," he said, adding that the victim was paralysed on the left side of his body.

"After medical personnel pronounced him deceased, the body was handed over to the police for further action," he added.
