PETALING JAYA: After a global recognition for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will continue to focus on service improvements, says its managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani.
He said being recognised as Asia Pacific’s most connected airport reflects the strength of KLIA’s hub position and its contribution to Malaysia’s global standing.
“Service improvements continue to be a central focus. Successes in 2025 include increased throughput at passenger processing checkpoints leading to a shorter minimum connecting time.
“The airport has also introduced new family-friendly facilities and refreshed cultural showcases that enhance the travel experience,” he said.
KLIA has been ranked the most connected airport in the Asia-Pacific region and placed fourth globally under data platform for the global travel industry, OAG’s 2025 Megahubs index.
Since the first Megahubs ranking in 2015, KLIA has grown its connectivity by 22% and today also holds the world’s number one spot among low-cost carrier megahubs, with AirAsia contributing around 36% of its operations.
Mohd Izani said such recognition comes on the back of strong momentum at KLIA.
As of August, he said KLIA recorded 41 million passengers, a 9% increase year-on-year.
“This year alone, the airport has welcomed six new airline entrants and launched 11 new routes across the network.
“Long-haul capacity has been expanded with higher frequencies from global carriers, while the presence of Chinese airlines has more than doubled compared to pre-pandemic levels,” he said.
Mohd Izani added that KLIA’s climb in the OAG global rankings demonstrates the progress of MAHB’s refreshed strategy, which centres on service excellence, growth and capacity.
“With these efforts, KLIA is poised to consolidate its role as one of the world’s foremost aviation hubs,” he said.
