KOTA KINABALU: The PKR central leadership council will decide on Sunday (Sept 28) on approving the membership application of former deputy finance minister Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa, who is the eldest son of Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the matter would be discussed at a meeting on Sept 28 regarding the approval of new memberships.
Fuziah told this to reporters when asked if Yamani Hafez's application to be a member was accepted by the party.
"It is best to wait for the meeting," she told reporters after during a visit to a petrol station here to inspect the implementation of the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS).
Talk had been rife that PKR is keen to field Yamani Hafez, a former Sipitang MP, for the Sindumin seat, one of the 13 seats it is eyeing to contest in the coming state election.
However, Sabah Umno is also keen to contest the Sindumin seat now held by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, who won the seat on a Parti Warisan ticket before defecting to Umno and later GRS.
Dr Yusof was recently charged in connection with graft connected to Sabah mining prospecting licenses.
Barisan and Pakatan have more or less agreed on a seat sharing formula but are still ironing out at least three seats including Sindumin which both parties are keen to contest.
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be on an overnight political push in Sabah from Friday (Sept 26) to mark 27th anniversary of the Reformasi movement in Inanam in Kota Kinabalu, Merotai in Tawau and in Sandakan between 3pm and 9pm.
Anwar is expected to also launch the PKR election machinery during the gatherings known as "Himpunan Temurapat Umum" in the three areas ahead of the soon to be called Sabah state election.
Fuziah said that it was part of preparations for the state elections.
On Saturday (Sept 27), Anwar will have breakfast during a gathering with navy personnel at the Sandakan naval base before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
