Duo charged with trafficking 103kg of meth

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men have been charged at a Magistrate's Court here with trafficking over 100kg of methamphetamine.

Fathi Fikri A'shaari and Ahmad Syakir Khalid, both 36, nodded in understanding after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Amira Abd Aziz on Tuesday (Sept 23).

No plea was recorded, however, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The two businessmen were jointly charged with trafficking 103,326g of the drug at a house in Jalan Tasik Damai, Taman Tasik Impian, Sungai Besi, at 11.50am on Sept 10.

They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty, or imprisonment for life and at least 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The court set Dec 22 for mention of the case to allow for the submission of the chemist's report. Bail was denied for both accused. – Bernama
