Sabah floods: Number of victims rises to 3,325


KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Sabah has risen to 3,325 people from 964 families as of Thursday (Sept 18) afternoon, up from 3,134 people in the morning.

According to a statement from the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, victims are currently housed in 28 temporary evacuation centres across six districts of Beaufort, Membakut, Penampang, Papar, Putatan and Sipitang.

The number of evacuees in Penampang and Papar continues to increase, while the numbers in Beaufort, Membakut, and Sipitang are stable. The number of victims in Putatan has decreased.

A total of 128 villages have been affected by the floods in Sabah since Sept 9.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, the committee reported that 13 people from three families are still sheltering at the Dewan Suarah Marudi PPS as of 4pm. Two river water level stations, in Marudi and Long Teru, are also at dangerous levels. – Bernama
