Sabah floods: Education Ministry expresses sorrow over deaths of four pupils


PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry has expressed condolences to the families of four pupils who lost their lives in the recent floods and landslides that struck several areas in Sabah.

In a statement on Wednesday (Sept 17), the ministry also extended its deepest condolences to the families of the four students.

"May the families be granted strength and resilience in facing this difficult time," the statement said.

As of 8am on Wednesday, the ministry reported that a total of 53 educational institutions in Sabah and Sarawak have been affected by the floods.

These include 24 primary schools and five secondary schools in Sabah, as well as 22 primary schools and two secondary schools in Sarawak.

The ministry also reported that six temporary evacuation centres are currently operating within its educational premises.

It said five temporary evacuation centres are in operation in Sabah and one in Sarawak.

The ministry added that through the Sabah and Sarawak State Education Departments, it is channelling emergency aid to all institutions impacted by the floods.

"Continuous monitoring of the flood situation is being carried out to ensure preparedness, safety and the wellbeing of pupils, teachers and the entire education community," the ministry added.
