89-year-old killed after being hit by bus


JOHOR BARU: An elderly pedestrian was killed after being hit by a factory bus on Wednesday (Sept 17) morning.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at a traffic light junction along Jalan Sutera, Taman Sentosa, at 8am when the 89-year-old woman was crossing the road.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when a factory bus, driven by a 38-year-old man, hit the victim, who attempted to cross the road after the traffic light turned green.

“The bus, which was heading from Jalan Bakar Batu towards Taman Sentosa, was making a right turn at the junction, causing the driver to be unable to avoid the victim,” he said in a statement.

He added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Witnesses are urged to contact the South Johor Baru traffic police station or investigating officer Inspector Nur Fathihah Ismail at 010-4171762 to assist with the investigation.
