ALOR SETAR: Perikatan Nasional's supreme council is scheduled to meet next week to discuss its chairmanship and proposed prime minister candidate for the 16th General Election, among other matters, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan chairman and Bersatu president said coalition partner PAS has the right to nominate its own prime minister or chairman candidate at its 71st Muktamar, which is ongoing here.

"I just informed Tan Sri Tok Guru (PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang) we will call for a supreme council meeting, and the matter will be discussed and decided upon.

"Perhaps (the meeting) will be sometime next week," he told reporters after attending the PAS Muktamar here on Monday (Sept 15).

On Sunday (Sept 14), PAS said it should take charge of Perikatan and present its own prime minister candidate for GE16.

At its general assembly last week, Bersatu nominated Muhyiddin as the coalition's pick for prime minister.

Pressed on whether or not the matter would be decided during the supreme council meeting, Muhyiddin said it was up to the leadership.

"We will first set the suitable dates and all the Perikatan leaders will attend.

"When there is a quorum, that (matter) will be on the agenda.

"We maintain an open stance and have no issues. If the majority decision is final, we will respect and accept it," he said.

Asked if there were any issues between PAS and Bersatu, Muhyiddin said the two parties have close ties at all levels.

"We have achieved so many successes together.

"Perhaps, there are some who are unhappy that we are close," he said.

He added that there have been no issues even at the parliamentary level with Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Opposition Leader.
