PETALING JAYA: The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department recorded over 20 deaths on Sunday as the long weekend for Malaysia Day continues.
"Department statistics on Sept 14 showed that there were 22 road deaths and a total of 1,369 road accidents," said department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri in a statement today.
He also urged all road users to practice mindfulness on the road and to remain patient behind the wheel.
He said such habits would lead to safer roads for all.
"The habit of suddenly cutting lanes will cause congestion along the highway," he said.
Previously Plus Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) said that it was anticipating up to 2.2 million vehicles per day across its highway network on the peak travel days of Sept 12, 13, 19 and 20.
This was due to the school holidays and Malaysia Day.
In a statement on Thursday (Sept 11), PLUS advised users of the PLUS Expressway and the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) to plan their journeys.
They could do this by consulting the digital travel schedule, MyPLUS-TTA on the PLUS app.
"With recent enhancements, the MyPLUS-TTA can now be accessed on selected peak days.
"It is designed to help highway users plan their journeys on the PLUS and LPT2 expressways more efficiently during these peak periods outside of the festive season.
"This will also help ensure smoother traffic flow and provide a more comfortable travel experience," the statement read.
