KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged Sabahans to be patient after the state was hit by flash floods.
In the past week, hundreds of homes were inundated by floodwaters while vehicles were washed away, bringing much losses to affected families.
Hajiji assured the people that the government was coordinating repairs, restorations and providing assistance accordingly.
“Sabah Electricity technical team is working 24 hours non-stop on rotational basis to repair damaged assets and restore power supply,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Hajiji noted that the landslide in Kg Sarapung had caused an electric tower to fall on Saturday, cutting off power to more than 230,000 customers in the east coast including Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Semporna and Beluran.
Fortunately, the utility company managed to restore power supply in stages, and efforts are still ongoing, he said.
“I was made to understand that an emergency tower is being installed as a temporary measure while plans are already afoot to build a permanent one,” he said.
He called on all Sabahans to come together to assist one another, and to give time to the authorities to address these issues.
