KUALA LUMPUR: Around 400 people experienced harrowing moments after being caught in a water surge incident while camping at the Kerling Hot Springs Recreation Centre in Kuala Kubu Baharu early Monday (Sept 15) morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 5.47am.

He said a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Baharu station with six personnel was sent to the scene, some 20km away, and arrived at 6.11am.

"The water reportedly started rising around 3am, trapping holidaymakers camping and picnicking in the area.

"All the victims were safe and guided to higher ground under the supervision of our personnel,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad Mukhlis said rescue efforts to evacuate all the trapped victims are ongoing. – Bernama
