Sabah Barisan dismisses Ilham Centre report favouring GRS coalition

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan is not concerned by an Ilham Centre report stating that the advantages were more in favor of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition than other parties ahead of the state elections.

Sabah Barisan Youth Chief Sufian Abdul Karim said that, from a political science perspective, the research was more academic than realistic.

He said the people of Sabah were growing tired of the GRS government.

“Research can draft grafts and theories, but it is not able to cover the reality of failures in a government’s governance,” he said in a statement, Sunday (Sept 14).

Sufian calls the report, which mentioned ‘strong personalities’ as being one of the reasons for GRS having an upper hand over other parties, a shallow theory.

He said if having the right personalities or candidates was enough, then Sabah would have been a much more developed and prosperous state by now.

He said, as a matter of fact, Sabah was still lacking in many economic and development aspects, while its people faced a pressing cost of living.

“Sabah Barisan is not threatened by reports or research of such, and we will prove it in the coming Blue Wave gathering,” said Sufian.

Sufian said the people can differentiate between theory and reality.

Recently, the independent analysis firm Ilham Centre had, among other things, stated that GRS was seen to have an upper hand in many aspects, especially in Muslim Bumiputera and the Kadazandusun Murut Rungus seats.

It also said that Barisan and Parti Warisan would have a tough time breaking these GRS strongholds.

It stated that Warisan was only strong in the east coast, while Barisan and Umno still struggled to regain grassroots support.
