KOTA BARU: A 36-year-old man who was dressed as a cartoon character has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl at a playground in Pantai Irama, Bachok.
Bachok deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Azrie Sulaiman said that the incident occurred at 6.20pm on Thursday (Sept 11) and was recorded by a passer-by.
The suspect was observed inappropriately touching the victim.
The victim was immediately taken to a hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed that no physical injuries were sustained.
"The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and has a criminal record with multiple offences. The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
"The suspect has been remanded for seven days from Friday until Sept 18 for further investigation," he said in a statement.
DSP Mohd Azrie urged the public to monitor their children's movements and report any suspicious behaviour immediately. – Bernama
