BACHOK: The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) will open a tender next week for repair works on SM Ugama (A) Darul Ulum Al-Muhammadiah in Kampung Kolam here, which was damaged in a recent fire.

The RM500,000 project, approved and announced on Saturday (April 18) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, involves repair works on the administrative block of the Government-Aided Religious School (SABK).

Kelantan JKR director Nik Badlihisham Nik Ismail said once a contractor is appointed, repair works are expected to begin in mid-May and take about three months to complete.

"The scope of work includes replacing roof trusses, roofing and ceilings, as well as repairing and replacing doors, windows and grilles.

"It also involves wall repairs, repainting the entire building and rewiring the affected block,” he told reporters after a working visit and presentation of a contribution by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar here on Saturday.

However, he said repair works for the classrooms and hostel, which were also destroyed in the fire, would require additional funding of at least RM4mil and are expected to take up to two years to complete.

Earlier, Shamsul Azri spent nearly 30 minutes engaging with students and inspecting the school blocks affected by the incident.
