PAS kicks off its 71st general assembly in Alor Setar

ALOR SETAR: The 71st PAS muktamar (general assembly) officially kicked off on Sept 12.

The PAS 66th youth wing meeting served as a curtain raiser for the party meeting.

The meeting began with the party deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man inspecting the guard of honour by PAS' Jabatan Amal Malaysia at the Kedah Pas Complex at about 8.30am.

Tuan Ibrahim was then ushered to the main hall where he was expected to officiate the event.

Among those present during the event were Pas youth wing chief Afnan Hamimi, Taib Azamudden, Pas vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, PAS Ulama chief Datuk Ahmad Yahaya and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhamad Sanusi Md Nor.

Bersatu youth wing chief Mohd Hilman Idham and Gerakan youth wing chief Wong Chia Zen were among Perikatan Nasional party leaders.

The six-day muktamar is expected to be among the 'hottest' ones in Pas' history.

Among the issues which are expected to be discussed during the meeting are the proposed Urban Renewal Act (URA), nomination of Bersatu president Tan Seri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister by the party wings and the high cost of living.

Over 10,000 people are expected to attend this year's muktamar.

Its main event will be the central Pas muktamar to be held at the Kedah Pas Complex on Sept 15 and Sept 16.

There will also be general assemblies for its women, ulama, and non-Muslim supporter wings on Sept 13.
