SIM cards to adopt MyDigital ID

PUTRAJAYA: The registration of prepaid SIM cards in Malaysia will fully adopt MyDigital ID by the end of this year as part of efforts to strengthen digital security, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is also government spokesman, said the move would involve all telecommunications companies in the country which will be instructed to implement registration using digital identity verification.

“At the meeting of the National Council of Digital Economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution yesterday, SIM card registration was discussed, and telco companies will be instructed to ensure that the process for SIM cards and prepaid accounts adopts MyDigital ID verification.

“This will be enforced by the end of this year. The MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) will provide more detailed information. Several security aspects will also be strengthened,” he said at his weekly press conference.
