PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across eight states as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, effective until 2pm on Monday (July 20).
In the northern region, the weather alert covers the entire state of Perlis, alongside Kubang Pasu in Kedah.
On the east coast and inland areas, severe weather is expected in Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang in Kelantan, as well as Lipis and Jerantut in Pahang.
In the central region, the warning encompasses almost the entirety of Selangor, affecting Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang, alongside both Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Further south, the alert extends to several areas in Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin), the entire state of Melaka, and northern districts in Johor, namely Tangkak and Muar.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 11am on Sunday.
