Melaka JPJ issues 648 notices in special operation

ALOR GAJAH: A total of 335 commercial vehicles were issued with 648 notices for various offences during the Melaka Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) special operation on commercial vehicles.

Melaka JPJ director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said that in total, 2,034 goods vehicles were inspected at several hotspots across the state during the operation from Sept 1 to 9.

“Of the 335 commercial vehicles issued with notices, 150 were heavy goods vehicles weighing less than 7.5 tonnes, 168 were above 7.5 tonnes, eight were express and tour buses respectively, while one was an e-hailing vehicle.

"Seven investigation papers were opened for overloading offences and two investigation papers for public service offences involving the absence of passenger lists and breaches of operator licence conditions, under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715),” she said after leading an inspection of commercial vehicles at the Ayer Keroh Rest and Service (R&R) Jejantas on the North–South Expressway (northbound) on Wednesday (September 10).

Siti Zarina said eight goods vehicles were found to be carrying excess loads, consisting of building materials, palm oil, fertiliser, and chicken feed.

She stressed that JPJ would not compromise, especially where heavy vehicles were concerned.

“This included four main categories of offences by goods vehicles, namely tinted windows (28 cases), tyres (20), lights (15), and vehicle modifications (9), in addition to 46 other technical offences, bringing the total to 118 cases,” she said.

Siti Zarina added that all drivers and owners of commercial vehicles must comply with the provisions under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987 (Act 334), the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715) and all subsidiary regulations under them.
