SHAH ALAM: Bersatu’s eighth annual general meeting (AGM) ended with a unified endorsement from party members to the leadership of president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a statement issued after the conclusion of the AGM yesterday, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said that the AGM endorsed Muhyiddin as the party president.
He added that they also nominated the Perikatan Nasional chairman as the party’s choice for the prime minister’s post should they win the general election.
“About 20 delegates took part in the debates on Muhyiddin’s keynote address.
“They touched on several issues such as the cost of living, global and national economy, current political matters and the unity of the people,” he said.
In his speech earlier, Azmin reminded the delegates of how Bersatu was formed.
He said the party was Muhyiddin’s brainchild when he was sacked from the government and he resolved that he would raise the plight of the Malays.
Vice-president Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said Sabah Bersatu is ready to face the Sabah state election.
“A win for Sabah Bersatu in the state election can help Bersatu to win in the peninsula states,” Kiandee said in his winding-up speech.
He thanked Muhyiddin for his stand that Perikatan will implement the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Srikandi Muda chief Nurul Ezzati Azmi also said the wing is ready to nominate its members to be candidates in the Sabah election.
Meanwhile, party treasurer-general Datuk Seri Rina Harun called on members to make financial contributions to ensure the party’s continuity through an initiative called “Bersatu Infaq”.
“It is not about the amount but commitment. Individually, the amount may seem small, but when we combine this with the thousands of members nationwide, it adds up to a big amount,” she added.
Bersatu associate wing chief Dr Chong Fatt Full said issues such as the Unified Examination Certificate and status of vernacular schools cannot be avoided.
“We must avoid clashing voices. When we are united, the rakyat will have confidence in us; when we are not, it can cause confusion.”
