MELAKA: A water bottle that slipped onto the front passenger-side floor triggered a head-on collision between two cars at Tanjung Minyak here, with one vehicle bursting into flames.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said both drivers were unhurt in the 10pm accident on Saturday (Sept 6).
He said a 36-year-old man was driving towards Bukit Rambai when the bottle slipped onto the front passenger side.
The driver tried to retrieve it and lost control of his vehicle.
The car skidded into the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle driven by a 25-year-old woman, he said on Sunday (Sept 7).
Patit said the impact of the crash caused one of the cars to burst into flames.
Both drivers managed to get out safely while firefighters managed to put out the blaze.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, he said.
Last month, the media reported that the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research revealed more than 80% of road accidents in the country are linked to driver behaviour, including in-vehicle distractions.
