Foreigner, believed to be unwell, arrested for damaging police vehicle in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: A homeless foreign man was detained after allegedly damaging a police vehicle by hurling a brick at it near a hotel in the city centre.

Deputy Dang Wangi OCPD Supt Nuzulan Mohd Din said the incident occurred at 11.57pm on Wednesday (June 24) in front of a hotel along Jalan Hang Lekiu.

He said police arrested the suspect, believed to be in his 40s, at the scene with the public's assistance shortly after the incident.

"Initial investigations found that the suspect, a foreign national believed to be homeless, threw a brick at a police vehicle, causing damage," he said in a statement on Friday (June 26).

Police also suspect the man may have health issues.

The suspect has been remanded until Saturday (June 27) to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in damage, as well as Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for being in the country without valid travel documents.

Supt Nuzulan said investigations are ongoing.
