Company director charged over sale of walkie-talkies not certified by MCMC

IPOH: A director of a communications equipment company was charged in the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Sept 4) with two counts of selling walkie-talkies that were not certified by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Sim Zhi Hong, 36, pleaded not guilty to both charges before Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad.

On the first count, he was charged with selling seven units of Keruier Model KH-8800 walkie-talkies that were not certified as required under the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000.

The offence was allegedly committed at the VS Play Gadget Store premises at the Manjung Point 3 Business Centre, Seri Manjung, in January this year.

The charge was framed under Regulation 16(1)(b) of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, read with Section 244(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which is punishable under Regulation 16(3)

He faces a fine of up to RM300,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of three years or both, if found guilty.

Sim, as a representative of VS Play Gadget Store, which was charged with committing a similar offence at the same place, date and time, also pleaded not guilty.

The court set bail at RM1,000 with one surety and set Nov 20 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor from MCMC, Fadhli Ab Wahab, prosecuted, while Sim was represented by lawyer JK Kala. - Bernama
