Five women among 18 foreigners nabbed during raids at Johor entertainment outlets


ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested 18 foreigners including five women, during raids at two entertainment outlets here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said 13 Myanmar men and five women, aged between 24 and 41 were detained at two foreigner-operated outlets in Nusa Bestari and Mutiara Rini last Saturday (Aug 30).

“All those arrested were workers and customers at the premises.

“Checks showed none of them had prior criminal records and all tested negative for drugs,” he said in a statement.

He added that three television sets, seven speakers, two WiFi units, two mobile phones, snooker equipment, three business receipt books, a subwoofer, two mixing amplifiers, six microphones and RM3,207 in cash were seized.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(2) of the Johor Entertainment and Entertainment Places Enactment for operating without a valid licence, which carries a fine of up to RM2,000, a year’s jail or both.

He added that the suspects would also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1953/63 for staying in Malaysia without valid permits and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating pass conditions.

ACP Kumarasan said all suspects have been remanded until Sept 13.

“We remain committed to combating entertainment activities that violate the law and warn those involved to cease their operations.
