Warisan leaders lodge police report over divisive TikTok video

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan has lodged a police report against a TikTok user alleged to have falsely portrayed the Sabah opposition party as smearing and insulting the customs and traditions of the Kadazandusun community.

Warisan vice president Terrence Siambun and Sekong assemblyman Alias Sani said the user's video and act of misusing the party logo was an insult to all Sabahans.

The report was lodged in Keningau on Friday (Aug 29).

In urging the police and authorities to act firmly against actions that undermine unity, Siambun and Alias said this was an underhanded tactic by Warisan's rivals to incite public anger against the party through false social media accounts.

"The account is not operated by Warisan. It is a dirty political game by cowards who want to divide the people of Sabah by playing on racial sentiments just to undermine Warisan's growing strength across the state," they said in a statement.

"The Kadazandusun community is not only respected but is also the backbone of Sabah's history, culture and progress. Insulting them is an insult to the dignity of Sabah itself," they added.

Siambun noted that Warisan is a multiracial party representing all ethnic groups and aimed to build a nation, not a specific race or religion.

Alias urged the people, especially the Kadazandusun community, not to be taken in by such "cheap and false" attempts to provoke them.

He said the video also insults the Batu Sumpah (Oath Stone) put up to mark the formation of Malaysia.

"Insulting the Oath Stone is not only an insult to me but also to my family in Tambunan and the Kadazandusun community," Alias added.
