KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor has questioned his rival Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal about his achievements when the latter was a federal and state minister.
"I want to ask Shafie Apdal what he has done during the two and a half years when he was chief minister and during his tenure as the rural development minister for almost seven years," Hajiji said during a Yayasan Sabah roadshow in interior Tambunan district on Thursday (Aug 28).
Hajiji, who listed out the successes of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government over the last five years, said the people must not make the wrong choice in the coming state election.
Hajiji said that he was confident that GRS would be given a fresh mandate at the 17th state election.
He said that the present GRS government has eight local parties- Sabah STAR, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, Usno, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
"These eight local parties are our hope in the impending state election. We must not waste this golden opportunity because the sentiment on the ground is so strong for local parties to lead Sabah's politics.
"I want the people to be united. This is the right time for us to ensure GRS wins with flying colours in the state election. GRS leaders in Tambunan must win, and we have a good leader here in (Deputy Chief Minister I) Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan," he said.
He said the investor friendly policy of the GRS government had attracted numerous high-impact investors with the latest being a Singapore company, which is bringing in RM31bil in investments under three phases.
"This will not only generate revenue for the state but also creates jobs," he added.
Hajiji said the state government has created many initiatives to uplift the people's socio-economic status, and this includes the RM300 monthly assistance to about 100,000 poor and hardcore poor people in Sabah for one year.
"In terms of welfare assistance, we have spent about RM1.4bil to help 70,000 recipients, while in education, the state government has spent RM1.33bil under our human capital development," he said.
