A YEAR after the sinkhole tragedy that shocked the nation, the son of the Indian national who perished in the incident returned to Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur, last Saturday to commemorate the death of his mother, reported Kosmo!.
The man performed religious rituals at the site where his mother, Vijayalakshmi, 48, was reported to have fallen into an 8m-deep hole on Aug 23, 2024.
In his viral TikTok video, he was also seen distributing food to the public, believed to be part of cultural rites and a symbolic gesture of respect for his late mother.
During the incident, Vijayalakshmi, who hailed from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India, was walking along the pedestrian walkway near Masjid India when she suddenly plunged into the hole.
The search and rescue operation launched immediately after the incident, however, failed to uncover any trace of the victim.
> Veteran actress Wan Maimunah Wan Abdul Aziz, 68, has chosen to forgive a production company that allegedly cheated her out of payment for years, Berita Harian reported.
“There was a drama I acted in, but I never received any payment.
“Still, I believe that sustenance from God will never go astray,” she said at the Pekema 2025 Charity Golf Tournament Aid Handover Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Despite not being paid, the actress affectionately known as Ibu refused to point fingers, instead entrusting the matter to the will of God.
“After performing the haj last year, I resolved to take a step back. I have been deeply saddened by how often I was deceived,” she said.
She added that several parties, including the president of the Persatuan Seniman Malaysia, Zed Zaidi, had asked about the identity of the particular production company.
However, Wan Maimunah remained steadfast in her decision not to reveal those behind the bitter episode.
