Durian buffet in Parliament a hit with lawmakers, staff members

KUALA LUMPUR: The distinctive aroma of fresh durians filled the air in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 26) as MPs, Senators, and Parliament staff enjoyed unlimited servings of the beloved national fruit.

Organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), the event saw Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other ministers indulging in various durian types, including the prized Musang King variant.

Themed “Eat More Local Fruits, The Right and Nutritious Choice,” the event aimed to boost interest in local fruits among MPs and Parliament staff to reduce dependence on imports.

Alongside durians, attendees also savoured fresh fruits like jackfruit, pomelo, dragon fruit, guava, rambutan, and pineapple.

“The initiative aligns with our Healthy Lifestyle campaign, emphasising the importance of a balanced diet based on local produce.

"It demonstrates the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry and Fama’s commitment to promoting and strengthening the market for local fruits among Malaysians and lawmakers,” Fama said in a statement today.

Members of the media were also invited to join the fruit feast.
