ABOUT 600kg of varieties, including Red Prawn, Hor Lor, Green Skin, Capri, Khun Poh, Kunyit, Little Red and D11, were enjoyed by a 250-strong crowd at the annual durian party in Penang hosted by Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying.

The Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister said the treat was a gesture of appreciation to village community management council (MPKK) and women and family development committee (JPWK) members, her service centre personnel, government servants, grassroots volunteers and local media.

“Without your hard work, discipline and dedication, all our efforts to help society would not be as effective.

“Today is not just about enjoying the king of fruits but also to foster closer ties and strengthen our commitment to the people of Penang,” she said in her speech.

She also thanked media practitioners for their work in highlighting pertinent issues and conveying accurate information.

“You help ensure that voices of the community reach the wider public,” she added.

Hui Ying called on her team members to continue serving the people with dedication.

“We need to keep reaching out, especially to young or new voters.

“People will judge us through our actions and presence on the field,” she said during the event held at Lee Sih Chong Soo along Jalan Burma in George Town.

Also served were rambutan and mangosteen.

Lim Kean Seng, owner of Seng Durian Farm that supplied the fruits, said they also served a prized Penang durian cultivar called Ang Kim Leng or Red Gold Dragon.

“It grows predominantly on higher elevations in the Pulau Betong area of Balik Pulau where we’re located.

“The taste is rich and creamy, with a pleasantly bittersweet flavour profile,” said Kean Seng.
